about our Services: |
Offered is full midwifery care in a family friendly environment, home birth,
birth center birth, family planning, and well-woman care. We are experts in
breast feeding, offering unlimited support both before and after the baby's
birth. We openly support water births, as well as VBAC/ vaginal birth after
cesarean. Also offered are childbirth classes for the family desiring a
truly natural and empowering childbirth experience. Check the schedule for
upcoming events, workshops, and guest speakers!
Attending every birth is midwife Adrian Feldhusen, NHCM, CPM, or Tracey A. Bowman, CNM, ARNP and at
least one apprentice who is a trained doula and childbirth educator.
Other support persons are welcomed, as well as family, friends, and
children. Birth is a family event after all! It is the birthing mother
who decides ultimately who is with her for labor and birth. There are
no shift changes, no strangers caring for you, and excellent continuity
of care by the staff. For those families who feel home birth is not an
option, a free standing birth center is an excellent alternative
offering a home like atmosphere and very low intervention.
Our home birth care is also offered. We will have regular prenatal and
postpartum visits in the office for families desiring home birth, with
the midwives traveling to the home at 36 weeks, for the labor and
birth, and immediately postpartum for the first few days. We support a
woman's choices for her individualized care. There are no routine
interventions in pregnancy and birth.
Although The Birth Cottage is a completely independent and
free-standing birth center, it is part of an integrated network of
maternity care. Our home birth friendly doctors will assist whenever
needed, with an open referral system in place at all times.
Out-of-hospital birth is for low-risk mothers and babies. During our
continuing care, we can obtain medical attention whenever necessary or
indicated. We also offer laboratory testing, STD and HIV testing, and
low-cost pregnancy tests. Studies show the safety of out-of-hospital
births to be as safe as- and even safer than- a hospital birth for a
low risk mother and baby. This includes home birth and birth center
birth with a qualified and trained professional. A midwife is not only
a professional- she is an expert in normal birth. They view each labor
and birth as unique and individual, sensitively supporting the mother
throughout her journey.
Most insurances are accepted, as well as New Hampshire Medicaid for
our services. We also offer a sliding scale fee for those in need. Our
fees are about 1/4 of those of a hospital! During each visit, we will
spend about an hour with each family. This time is used to get to know
each other, to formulate good and honest relationships, and to build a
foundation for a comfortable birthing experience.
