Safe, holistic, family-centered care to women and their families since 2005.
Full scope midwifery care for prenatal, birth, and postpartum care.

Pregnancy

We offer full prenatal and postpartum care in a warm, family-friendly environment.

“The midwife is recognized as a responsible and accountable professional who works in partnership with women to give the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period, to conduct births on the midwife’s own responsibility and to provide care for the newborn and the infant. This care includes preventive measures, the promotion of normal birth, the detection of complications in mother and child, the accessing of medical or other appropriate assistance and the carrying out of emergency measures.”

From the International Definition of a Midwife, adopted by the
 International Confederation of Midwives 2005

Visits with the midwives typically last 30 minutes or more, giving you plenty of time for questions and discussion. Births are attended by either Adrian Feldhusen, NHCM, CPM or Autumn Vergo, NHCM, CPM and one student midwife who acts as an assistant. We provide postpartum care visits in your home at one day and three days after the birth, then office visits through the sixth week. There is a midwife on call at all times to answer questions or talk to you by phone.

We at the Birth Cottage support a woman’s choices for her individualized care, therefore there are no routine interventions during prenatal care or birth. We are able to arrange for genetic screening, ultrasounds, laboratory testing and any other prenatal screenings you request. Because our staff is small, you are assured continuity of care.

At the Birth Center
The Birth Cottage is an outpatient facility; as such, your stay here will be only as long as you need! Women typically arrive in labor and leave 2-12 hours after delivery. We believe that a healthy, postpartum mother should be resting in her own bed, with her baby beside her. For that reason, we come to your home in the early postpartum to provide care and breastfeeding support. There are no restrictions on visitors, or who you may bring to your birth. Families with children are welcome.
